In the heart of Taghazout, directly overlooking the main beach, Teddy Pirate has done a fantastic job of bringing a homely yet boutique coliving surf house to Morocco’s trendy surf town.
This isn’t just another large hostel where your face blends into the crowd; it’s an intimate space with limited capacity where like-minded travellers and surfers can connect, collaborate, and hang out in the cosy common areas.
With bed and breakfast or full surf camp packages available, there are also group trips to join, as well as fibre optic wifi for the digital nomads looking to get some laptop work done during their stay.

Teddy Pirate Quick Overview
Location: Teddy Pirate is located right on the beachfront in Taghazout, a small surf village on the south west coast of Morocco.

Facilities and amenities: The Teddy Pirate surf house features fibre optic wifi, buffet breakfast, surfboard and wetsuit rental, a comfortable lounge, sea view terrace, and a rooftop perfect for morning yoga. Coming soon is also a hammam-style sauna.
Who is Teddy Pirate for: This is the place for anyone who wants to develop their surfing skills or just soak up Taghazout’s laidback vibe while being part of a small and tight-knit community.
Where Is Teddy Pirate?
As mentioned, Teddy Pirate is located on the Taghazout beachfront in the south west of Morocco – a coastline famed for its world-renowned waves.
More specifically, it sits in the southern end of Taghazout Beach. This means it’s in a prime position for epic sunset views, after the sun has already passed the properties in the northern end.
In relation to the main cities in Morocco, Teddy Pirate is just 24km north of Agadir, while 570km and 270km southwest of Rabat and Marrakech, respectively.

How To Get To Teddy Pirate Surf Camp
If you’re flying internationally, the closest airport to Teddy Pirate is Agadir. From here, you can reach the surf camp in about 30-60 minutes by private car, shared grand taxi, or public bus. The latter two options depart from Place Salam in Agadir city centre.
If travelling from another destination within Morocco, you can travel directly from Agadir as mentioned above or also from Marrakech, Essaouira, and Imsouane by using the Souk To Surf Shuttle Bus.
If you have your own car, public parking is located nearby, above Panorama Beach.
We were travelling from Imsouane and found the Souk To Surf shuttle to be very comfortable, convenient, and reliable so we can recommend it as great value for money.
Our First Impressions
After checking in and setting down our luggage, Boris, Teddy Pirate’s owner, gave us a tour of the house and its facilities.
The first thing that stood out was the modern style and artistic vibe, but then Boris took us up to the terrace and the view was just insane! The sun was about to set over Taghazout and it was the perfect time of day to get our first glimpse of Teddy Pirate’s awesome views!
Very quickly we knew this was somewhere we’d not only feel relaxed and comfortable, but also inspired and motivated.
Accommodation At Teddy Pirate
Whether you’re happy in a shared dormitory or prefer to pay a bit more for privacy, there’s an option at Teddy Pirate for you. Accommodation options include:
- 8 Bed Mixed Dormitory
- 4 Bed Female Dormitory
- Sea View Triple Room
- King Lounge Private Room
Dormitories
On the ground floor with the best views I’ve ever seen from a dorm room, looking out over Taghazout Beach, the dormitories feature spacious and comfortable bunk beds – each with its own USB B socket and two reading lamps.
Lockers are located under the bunk, which can be locked with a padlock, and there is plenty of space for luggage either next to your bed or in the centre of the room.
Towels are included and the shared bathrooms consist of a toilet and shower on the ground floor, a second shower on the first floor and a second toilet on the second floor.
Sea View Triple Room
Also on the ground floor is the private triple room with, as usual at Teddy Pirate, awesome sea views!
The colour scheme in this room is slightly different to the rest of the house as it embraces a beautiful shade of blue, which includes the two large windows facing the sea.
There’s no private bathroom with this room but it strikes a great balance between privacy and cost.
King Lounge Private Room
If you want to really step things up and stay in the utmost luxury and privacy that Teddy Pirate offers, the King Lounge is the room to book!
With a stylish Tadelakt finish, cohesive with the rest of the house’s modern design, which is complemented by a stack of art books and house plants, the King Lounge epitomises boutique living.
Featuring two windows overlooking the beach, a large TV, a separate couch and desk, as well as a comfortable king-size bed, the King Lounge is also the only room to have its own en suite private bathroom.
The room can also accommodate up to four people if you use the sofa bed which means, if split between four, the cost per person comes out at just a little more than the dormitory.
We adored this room and if it’s in your budget, it won’t disappoint you!
Other Facilities And Amenities
As well as their rooms, Teddy Pirate also has a few communal spaces and services for guests on site.
Lounge And Terrace
On the second floor is the communal lounge and terrace. With a sofa that you sink into, the lounge is the perfect hangout spot after a day catching waves! There’s also a large TV if your favourite team is playing and it’s where the buffet breakfast is served each morning.
There is an open-plan kitchen here too which can be used by guests upon request.
Stepping out onto the adjoining terrace and you’re hit with the fresh salty air and impressive views of Taghazout Beach below. This is where you’ll be served dinner or you can lounge on the two nest chairs in the chilled out seating area.
Also make sure to be here for sunset – it’s spectacular!
Rooftop
A short but steep set of stairs leads from the terrace up to the rooftop. Here you can fully take in the panoramic views of Taghazout! It’s also where you’ll stretch out in the morning yoga classes!
Surfboard And Wetsuit Rental
Teddy Pirate also offer daily rentals for surfboards and wetsuits. While these are included for those on a surf camp package, bed and breakfast guests can hire a soft board for 10 EUR or a hard board for 15 EUR – wetsuits are included in this price.
A Hammam-style Sauna
Although it was unfortunately out of order during our stay, the house has a beautiful traditional sauna, in the same style you’d experience in a hammam.
Located next to the shower on the first floor, I had a look in and wow, it would be awesome to have a sweat in this traditional Moroccan-style sauna!
Teddy Pirate Surf Camp Packages
Teddy Pirate offers three all-inclusive surf camp packages which are:
- 1 day surf camp
- 4 day surf camp
- 7 day surf camp
All packages include a daily buffet breakfast, packed lunches on surf days, a daily home-cooked dinner, a morning yoga class, surfboard and wetsuit hire, surf lessons led by experienced local instructors, and transport to the surf break (which is dictated by weather and conditions).
The 7 day surf camp is the most immersive and it also includes four days of surfing (two of which are double sessions) and the ability to join all of the trips that Teddy Pirate organises.
The 4 day surf camp includes three days of surfing and you can join any of the organised trips that are scheduled during the days that you are there.
The 1 day surf camp gives you a taste of the experience with all meals and a day of surfing.
Other Activities
Group trips after surfing are a great way to reinforce Teddy Pirate’s collective and togetherness atmosphere and there are various activities scheduled throughout the week.
These include:
- Day trip to Paradise Valley
- Sandboarding and sunset at Timalin Dunes
- A traditional Moroccan cooking class
- A day trip to Imsouane
- A sunset group trip to Taghazout Skatepark
- Daily morning yoga classes
What If You’re Only Bed And Breakfast?
Think you’ll be missing out on all the fun by only booking bed and breakfast?
Think again!
If you’re not on a surf camp package, you can still pay to join any of the surf lessons, group trips or upgrade to a half board food package.
Costs include:
- 2 hour surf lesson: 30 EUR
- 4 hour surf lesson including lunch: 45 EUR
- Yoga class: 10 EUR
- Softboard daily hire: 10 EUR
- Hardboard daily hire: 15 EUR
Note: Wetsuits are included in the surfboard rental price.
Flexibility is paramount at Teddy Pirate and there’s the opportunity to join additional trips or even upgrade to a full surf camp package at any point during your stay. Just speak to Boris and he’ll sort you out with whatever you need!
Our Experience At Teddy Pirate
We spent four nights staying at Teddy Pirate in August, and our time was split between the King Lounge and the mixed dormitory.
And if my tone hasn’t alluded to it already, we loved our time staying at this chic surf house!
Not only was the modern and polished style right up our street and the food delicious, but we also met some really cool people during our stay – which is what it’s all about!
A special mention has to go to the morning coffee too, which was exceptional for Taghazout standards – partly due to the professional espresso machine that Boris shipped all the way from Italy!
Even though we were only on bed and breakfast, we of course had to join one of the surf lessons – we’re in Taghazout after all! Well, Lucy joined and I was on camera duty as unfortunately my shoulder was injured at the time.
We were transported down to Anza, as conditions that day were better there, and Lucy got straight into her 2 hour beginner lesson with Ayoub. After a warm-up on the beach, he guided Lucy step by step through her technique on the sand, before they made their way into the water and practiced on the small waves.
Overall, Lucy had a great time and enjoyed the personalised approach and encouragement!
As well as surfing, we also joined the traditional cooking class with Rabab which was an authentic experience in a traditional Berber village. She was wonderful and we had an absolute blast making tagine and bread while drinking mint tea with her!
Compared to our first visit to Taghazout, when we stayed in an apartment further back from the beach up the hill, our time at Teddy Pirate felt much more immersive – both in terms of the town, the surf, and with other travellers.
Final Thoughts
Overall, Teddy Pirate is a fantastic accommodation choice for travellers heading to Taghazout and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there.
