Thailand was so good, we just had to go back again!
After spending two months travelling from south to north, island and temple hopping, eating our way through night markets, embracing the big smoke of Bangkok, and finding peace in the greenery of the north, we decided that life was too short not to come back for a month on our favourite island, Koh Phangan!
Thailand is a classic, and after finally visiting for ourselves, we can see exactly why!

Our Thailand Story So Far
For the longest time, I wasn’t interested in visiting Thailand.
I saw it as the ‘classic’ backpacker destination where people go when they can’t think of somewhere more original, as well as being full of parties and seedy older guys.
But by the time our travel plans lined up with Thailand, Lucy really wanted to go, and I had come around to seeing what it was actually like.
So, we went for it and thank goodness we did!
It didn’t take me long to realise just why Thailand is so popular and to fall in love with a place that I had previously labelled as ‘basic’!
Crossing the border from Malaysia and arriving in Hat Yai, we caught a speed boat to the tiny Koh Lipe, where our southern Thailand island-hopping adventure began.
After savouring the postcard-worthy Koh Lipe beaches, we sailed up to Koh Lanta and hopped to the Phi Phi islands, then Phuket, Krabi, and Koh Samui, before setting foot on the island that we ended up loving the most, Koh Phangan!
We never actually attended the famous Full Moon Party though, and instead spent our time exploring the island on our scooter, sampling the best Koh Phangan cafes, visiting awesome spots like the Kuan Yin Temple, and hopping around Koh Phangan’s best beaches!
Our island adventures ended on Koh Tao, and we left for Bangkok, and then to the north on the overnight train to Chiang Mai, with beds that I can confirm don’t fit a 190cm body!
Chiang Mai old town (with its superb coffee shops, mouth-watering night markets, and cheap foot massages that I miss so much), Pai, and Chiang Rai were our final stops in the Land of the Smiles before crossing the border into Laos.
But we promised we would be back!
And it wasn’t an empty promise as the next year we were back on Koh Phangan for the best part of a month, as once just hadn’t been enough!
Thailand now has a special place in our hearts (a huge 180 from me I know), and with such fond memories, we’re already looking forward to visiting again!
City living in Bangkok and island hopping around Koh Chang, Koh Kood, and Koh Mak are next on our never-ending list of places we want to visit in Thailand.
