Whether you want to day trip or make a stop on the way to Ouarzazate, get all the details for the four different ways to travel from Agadir to Taroudant.
We started to hear whispers of a city nicknamed ‘Little Marrakech’ after arriving in Agadir.
A city called Taroudant, which we hadn’t even heard of during our previous two trips to Morocco.
But learning it was less than two hours from Agadir, we knew we’d have to take the opportunity to visit, even if just for a day trip!
So we set about figuring out how we could get there and back on the same day, while maximising our time in Taroudant, so we could take in the main sights and get a real taste of what Little Marrakech is like.
And we found that it’s actually pretty easy to visit Taroudant for the day from Agadir. There are four different options: join a tour, take the bus, book a private car, or jump in a shared taxi.
We opted to take the CTM bus as it had a great schedule for a day trip, but I’ll go through each option in detail so you know the best way for you to get from Agadir to Taroudant!
Travel tip: As well as a day trip, Taroudant can also be a stop when travelling between Agadir and Ouarzazate.
How Far Is Taroudant From Agadir?
The first question running through our minds was where exactly is Taroudant in relation to Agadir, and how far away is it?
I’ve pinned Taroudant on the map below, which shows exactly where it sits, but essentially the distance from Agadir to Taroudant is 90km inland. The drive takes about an hour and a half (or about 2 hours if you’re on the bus).
Best Ways To Get From Agadir To Taroudant
As I mentioned, there are four main ways that you can get to Taroudant from Agadir, and these are all viable day trip options.
These are:
- Join A Taroudant and Tiout Tour – Easy and Convenient
- Take the CTM Bus – Allows More Time In Taroudant
- Private Car – Flexible and Comfortable Option
- Take A Grand (Shared) Taxi – Budget Option
Joining a tour via Get Your Guide is by far the easiest way to get there as you can book online, get picked up at your hotel, and not worry about any of the logistics. It also allows you to visit the magical Tiout Oasis and Kasbah on the same day.
However, taking the CTM bus gives you even more time in Taroudant to explore, a private car allows you to choose whatever pickup time you want, while a shared taxi is best for travellers looking to save every penny possible.
So, it just depends on your preferences.
We took the CTM bus as we really wanted to maximise our time in Taroudant but it was quite a hard choice as we’d have loved to see the Tiout Oasis too!
Note: You cannot travel between Agadir and Taroudant by train.
1. Join A Taroudant And Tiout Tour
Even though we opted for the bus, a Taroudant and Tiout tour is the best all-round option that suits most travellers.
Not only are you picked up and dropped off at your hotel in a comfortable air-conditioned minivan, but it’s also the only way to visit the historic hilltop kasbah of Tiout on the same day!
You also don’t have to worry about any of the planning, logistics, or itinerary, as it’s all taken care of for you, allowing you to let your hair down and fully relax! You won’t be sitting at the bus stop in Taroudant like us, wondering if the last bus back to Agadir is actually coming!
The best way to organise a tour is to book online via Get Your Guide, which is how we booked all of our Agadir tours. This way, you can have the peace of mind that comes with being able to read other travellers’ reviews.
I’d recommend this popular tour, which picks you up at your hotel at 8.30am before making the journey to Taroudant. Here, you’ll have a guided tour of the main sights, which are the city walls and souk, before heading onwards to Tiout for lunch and a tour of the ancient kasbah surrounded by a sea of palm trees.
An overall great day out, which is definitely up there along with Paradise Valley, Kasbah Oufella, Agadir Medina, and Crocoparc as one of the best places to visit while in Agadir!

2. Take The CTM Bus
We chose to travel on the CTM bus for the simple reason that it would give us more time to spend in Taroudant. It was a difficult decision to prioritise this over being able to visit Tiout, but I guess we couldn’t have it all.
We purchased our return tickets for £12 each on Bookaway, which is where we’ve booked all of our transport in Morocco!
Departing from the main bus station in Agadir (Gare Routiere) at 9am, the bus took two hours, making a couple of short stops along the way. There were no breaks as CTM buses don’t typically stop if the journey is under three hours, but the coach was comfortable enough as always.
By 11am, we’d disembarked at the main bus station in Taroudant, which is really just a big car park with a few coaches lined up, and wasted no time getting stuck into our sightseeing!
The return bus at 5pm departed from exactly the same spot as where we arrived, and I’d recommend being there early just in case. Although the bus comes from Ouarzazate, so there’s a bigger chance it will be late – as it was for us.
3. Book A Private Car
Whether you’re on a one-way journey or a day trip, the most comfortable and flexible way to get to Taroudant from Agadir is to take a private car.
And the easiest way to book this is online at Bookaway.
While it costs more for the convenience, it means you can be picked up from your hotel in Agadir at any hour you want, and the same goes for returning to Agadir. You can then sit back in your private car while you’re driven to your chosen drop-off point in Taroudant.
If you’re on a day trip, then I’d recommend choosing Bab El Kasbah for your drop-off point as it’s an ideal place to start exploring from.

4. Take A Grand (Shared) Taxi
The cheapest option is to take a grand (shared) taxi, which costs 40 MAD per person. These are the larger yellow and white and blue and white taxis that are generally used to travel to other towns and cities from Agadir.
They don’t have a set schedule and depart when they are full, so how long you’re waiting just depends on how many others are travelling at the same time. However, it’s possible to pay for any remaining seats if you want to get going.
I believe grand taxis depart for Taroudant from the main taxi station in Abattoir, but I’m not 100% sure on this so I would double check with your hotel or host.
We did consider taking a grand taxi to save those extra few dirhams, but with such limited time in the day and knowing we’d have to hope that there would be one coming back in the late afternoon, we decided against it. We felt more comfortable with the set CTM schedule.
But if you are looking for a grand taxi from Taroudant to Agadir, we saw a large group of them next to the bus station outside Bab Zourgane.

Return Journey – Taroudant To Agadir
To return to Agadir from Taroudant (even on the same day), you can follow the same steps in reverse – except if you’re on a tour.
As I mentioned, the CTM bus departs from the same spot in Taroudant bus station and the grand taxis are located right next door. If booking a private car, you can either choose the same pickup point as you were dropped off, or choose somewhere else if you don’t want to double back.
You’ll also arrive back in Agadir at the same point you left, whether it was the bus station, grand taxi station, or your hotel.
